We often take for granted that restaurants provide food that is safe for us to eat. However, with only slightly dipping food hygiene standards can a case of food poisoning occur. Food poising is almost entirely preventable, and so if a restaurant or take away has failed in this duty of care to you, they may be liable. Whilst it is difficult to prove liability for food poising, if the provider has seriously damaged your digestive organs, you may stand a real chance of claiming compensation.

18-year-old Bradie Perkins from Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, has just won a six-figure compensation pay-out after being left with disabilities following the contracting of E Coli whilst on holiday in Turkey in 2010. Bradie, who was 13 at the time, contracted a potentially deadly strain of the illness, which has left his kidneys functioning at “two-thirds” of their normal ability. Seven people have fallen ill with the potentially fatal ‘E.coli O157’ infection, which health officials believe could be linked to the food served at The Hydro. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said that an investigation is currently underway, but recognise that the burgers sold at The Hydro seem to be the common source. All those infected — one from Glasgow, two from Lanarkshire, three from Lothian and one from Cumbria — are currently recovering at home following the diagnosis. The Scottish Conservatives argue that NHS doctors who fail to meet hand-washing standards should receive disciplinary action.
